Ahoy there Shipmates!

Stonecrop Wines is proud to support The East End Classic Boat Society. Each December members and friends enjoy our estate grown sauvignon blanc, rosé and pinot noir at EECB's Christmas party on Bluff Road, Amagansett, at the community boat shop. Every year a raffle ticket is drawn to announce the winner of a hand-crafted classic wooden boat, built by EECB members. This year's winner is now the proud owner of a beautiful pooduck skiff.
We make a good team - #traditionalskills #shipwright #classic #handcrafted

Stonecrop Pinot Noir + Strip House

The nights are drawing in and there's a chill in the air, and we're switching to heartier dishes and cosy dwellings - and it doesn't get more comforting than New York's iconic steakhouse Strip House, offering top-notch cuts of meat in a vintage, siren red, speakeasy setting - downtown, on 12th street.

Stonecrop's handcrafted, estate grown pinot noir from Martinborough can be enjoyed by the glass at this bordello inspired steakhouse.

Music for Montauk

Music for Montauk's second Summer Series was a resounding success - the Montauk community were treated to a plethora of top notch concerts in various locations around the hamlet including two free concerts at Third House and one at the newly renovated Fort Pond House where folks enjoyed an evening of Shakespeare inspired music in the most magical spot right on Fort Pond.

During the glorious week long Summer Series there were many Stonecrop sightings on the picnic blankets and picnic tables.

Stonecrop Wine Tasting at Sherry Lehmann Wines & Spirits

Stop by tomorrow and chat to Andrew Harris owner of Stonecrop Wines as he pours his three estate grown wines form Martinborough, New Zealand.

Wednesday 7th September, 3-6pm

Sherry Lehman is celebrating their 82nd anniversary, but also their ninth year on Park Avenue and 59th Street!
They have always focused on offering their clients exceptional service, competitive pricing, and the best selection possible.

The first Sherry Lehmann store was one of several shops in the Louis Sherry building on Madison Avenue at 62nd Street; the building that is now home to Hermes. (In fact, the store took its name from the building — not from the fortified wine of Spain.) In 1937, Sherry Wine and Spirits moved one block south to 61st Street and Madison Avenue, to a site that is now New York’s famed Carlton House. In 1948, when Sherry Wine and Spirits moved across the street to 679 Madison Avenue, the original wood paneling from our second location (designed by the architect of the “21 Club”) was used to decorate the new shop. In 2007, SL moved again, this time to a three-floor, 9,000+ square foot location just two blocks south, at 59th Street and Park Avenue. Here they made every effort to replicate the charm and warmth of the old store.

Stonecrop and Sole East

The Backyard Restaurant at Sole East Resort a landmark Carl Fisher tudor building in Montauk is now serving our sauvignon blanc by the glass - You can enjoy a glass poolside, in one of their cabanas or in their lush and charming garden. We recently sampled the grilled octopus with thyme and cannelini beans in saffron and the arancini - a perfect pairing.

Stonecrop Perfect Pairings

Having a number of fishermen neighbors and friends we often find ourselves the
fortunate recipients of the freshest fish.

In the Montauk community there's always a constant swapping of bread, wine, fish, produce, honey, eggs, herbs - It makes all the difference to the cooking and dining experience when you know your fisherman, beekeeper, chicken keeper, bread maker, vegetable gardener, oh, and winemaker.

All recipes tried and tested in the Stonecrop kitchen.

Fresh cod with braised celery hearts with anchovies, grainy mustard and capers
Roasted cumin, buttered carrots
A lentil recipe from Saveur mag - lavender, roasted beets with lentils

 Miso, sake grilled salmon
Toasted barley with cauliflower, corn and black olives
The first of the arugula from our garden

Skate with brown butter and paprika
Black rice with sweet potatoes, soy and sesame oil
Brussels sprout and romaine caesar

Big Mac

At the entrance to Stonecrop vineyard sits our big old Macrocarpa aka Big Mac.
Back in 2003 when we planted our vines we also started a native New Zealand garden, planting in the plot around Big Mac. New Zealand native plants are know for their foliage, form and structure. Lancewood, Lacebark, Hebe, Kowhia, Muehlenbeckia, Coprosma, Flax and Ferns
were just some of the trees and shrubs that we planted.
Thirteen years on most of them are thriving, we did have some winter casualties and some were a tasty snack for the sheep next door, but the New Zealand native plants add another dimension to the entrance at Stonecrop, especially the divaricating plants (wide angled and intertangled) such as Muehlenbeckia and Coprosma, creating a dynamic tapestry
as you enter before approaching the vines.

East End Classic Boat Society + Stonecrop Wines

Every year we have a celebration with the East End Classic Boat Society in Amagansett. Friends and boat builders enjoy our trio of wines in the beautiful building next to the
Marine Museum overlooking the ocean.

The East End Classic Boat Society invites anyone who would like to enjoy the fun of wooden boat building to join it at the Hartjen–Richardson Community Boat Shop in Amagansett. For those with no prior woodcraft experience, it’s a chance to learn. For those with know-how, it’s an opportunity to use their skills and guide others. The cost of belonging is only $35 a year.
The group works to maintain traditional skills used to build and restore vintage era boats. Members come from all walks of life, including metal workers, writers, cabinetmakers, artists, carpenters and doctors.
They are open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m.

The society operates from a well-appointed, modern building filled with a wealth of equipment, tools and machinery used to construct new boats of classic design and restore vintage watercraft.  The boat shop was built in 2008 and is located behind the marine museum at 301 Bluff Road in Amagansett.

Stonecrop Wines and EECBS make a good team - We each share a passion for a handcrafted, quality product with a focus on traditional skills.

Dry River Road

Stonecrop is a small 20 acre vineyard situated on the edge of an ancient riverbed on the renowned Dry River Road, Martinborough. The gravely, deep, free-draining soils combined with the cool maritime climate and low rainfall allow us to produce wines of exceptional quality.

Martinborough
Soil scientists discovered a direct connection to Burgundy, an almost identical mix of free-draining river gravels, temperature and rainfall. Excellent concentration, structure, complexity and texture set Martinborough wines apart - low cropping levels, unique soils and climate consistently ensure these qualities are found in the wines of the Wairarapa region.
There are other Burgundian connections, including the boutique scale and strong family ties to land, vines and wines.  Wines from Martinborough are renowned as premium wines with an international reputation
that far outweighs its tiny production levels.

Sustainability
Stonecrop is a member of the New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowing programme and is an accredited SWNZ vineyard. The practice of Sustainable Winegrowing helps to improve the performance of our vineyard with a focus on the conservation of natural resources.

We are committed to using natural methods to control pests and diseases, which means a reduction of chemicals and sprays, creating a healthy environment for soil and vines resulting in the production of the best quality grapes possible and the production of world class
pinot noir, sauvignon blanc and rosé wines.

Everyone loves a Martinborough Pinot Noir

Especially one from the renowned Dry River Road - All of our Stonecrop pinot noir grapes are carefully handpicked to ensure that only the best fruit makes it to the bottle.

VINTAGE NOTES:
In 2011 the Martinborough region experienced warm temperatures at flowering and a very even fruit set with good crop levels which, due to good summer temperatures, led to an early veraison. The fruit reached optimum ripeness with great flavor concentration and arrived at the winery in excellent condition. The good physiological and flavor development at lower sugar (brix) levels allowed the wine to show good flavor and Pinot texture.

Stonecrop is a member of the New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowing program and is an accredited SWNZ vineyard. The practice of Sustainable Winegrowing helps to improve the performance of our vineyard with a focus on the conservation of natural resources. We are committed to using natural methods to control pests and diseases, which means a reduction of chemicals and sprays, creating a healthy environment for soil and vines resulting in the production of the best quality grapes possible.

WINEMAKER NOTES:
The fruit was 100% destemmed and fermented for 8 days in small fermenters by clone with hand plunging at six-hourly intervals, post ferment maceration and gentle pressing off. Careful barrel selection using French oak Damy and Cadus barrels to balance the tannins and 16 months maturation in 20% new oak resulted in a well balanced wine.
Nose:    Ripe intense classic aromas of soft plum and black cherry with developing gamy and earthy complexity.
Palate:  Rich fruit dominates the palate supported by soft tannins that have developed a silkiness with bottle age.  A concentrated, full-bodied Pinot Noir yet elegant and balanced, with mineral, fruit and oak flavors, showing classic Pinot Noir complexity and supple texture.
