Leaf pluckers at Stonecrop vineyard

Our neighbor's sheep leaf-plucking, this practice was introduced to the Dry River Road region by Dr Andrew Harris, owner of Stonecrop vineyard. 
Sustainability in action, and a win win situation for both the farmer next door and our sustainable vineyard.

Leaf plucking is the removal of the leaves that surround the young grapes, this improves air flow which reduces the chance of disease and also improves exposure to sunlight.

Fortunately sheep will eat grapevine leaves but not the pea size grapes, they also do a better job than machines or humans, removing more internal leaves and are more gentle in doing so.

Osteria Francescana

Thanksgiving was a very different affair for us this year - We traveled to Venice with dear friends where we walked and ate our way around the city for 10 days, but on Thanksgiving Day we drove to Modena for dinner at Osteria Francescana, it was a gustatory adventure; an evening of exceptional culinary delights and outstanding pairings. No wonder Massimo Bottura's restaurant has three Michelin stars and rated as one of the world's best restaurants.

Montauk Clam Chowder Contest

The 36th Fall Festival and Clam Chowder Contest was held on October 7th, it was a gorgeous Fall day and the crowds lined up on Main street to try all the tasty chowders on offer.

Andy and Sally were delighted to be judging and tried over 20 chowders.

It's not every day you get to taste chowders and sip Stonecrop sauvignon blanc at 11am in the morning!

Montauk Community Garden, Stonecrop and Montauk Pearl Oysters

Back in the Spring at the Montauk Community Garden's annual fundraiser held at Harvest restaurant, we donated an evening of wine and oysters for 6, (oysters donated by our friend Mike Martinsen, Montauk Pearl Oysters) this past Saturday our lovely 'winners' joined us at our home along with Mike, it was a perfectly balmy September evening for sipping our handcrafted sauvignon blanc and rose wines and slurping local oysters.

Music For Montauk + Stonecrop

The Montauk community were once again treated to Music For Montauk's week long Summer Series.

Outdoor concerts were held at Fort Pond House and Third House where folks enjoyed chamber music and sipped wine, of course a number of Stonecrop bottles were spotted on the picnic blankets.

On Friday a spectacular benefit was held at The Art Barge in Napeague, featuring a riveting violin performance as the sunset set over the bay, and new works by violist Jessica Meyer which left the audience asking for more, more, more! 

Stonecrop's rose, sauvignon blanc and pinot noir were poured throughout the night and were perfectly paired with Sarah Newbery's tasting delights.

Montauk Playhouse + Stonecrop Wines

Stonecrop Wines has been a proud sponsor of The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation for 11 years. We began donating our wine in 2006 (our first vintage) when the gala was held at the Lake Club on East Lake Drive. The gala this Saturday celebrates the art of surfing.

Our sauvignon blanc and pinot noir will be available once again at this annual event.

What's in a label?


Stonecrop - The vineyard sits on the edge of an ancient river bed, during geological upheavals blocks of greywacke, a grey sandstone, were deposited creating a river of gravel and stones.


Rosé - Our rosé is made with our own handpicked pinot noir grapes. 
Description: delicate aromas of rose petal and cherry complement citrus flavors and a crisp refreshing finish. 


Dry River Road - The renowned Dry River Road the original site of the iconic Dry River Road Wines.
It aptly describes the gravely and free-draining site.


Martinborough - An hours drive from Wellington it's a wine village packed with colonial charm, most of the vineyards are family owned with a focus on quality not quantity, also home to some of New Zealand's best pinot noir.
